The founder
Mr Andrew Chan had obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree with Honours from the University of West England Bristol, United Kingdom in 2010. He had henceforth completed his Certificate of Legal Practice in Malaysia in 2011.
He started his legal career reading in the chambers of Messrs Michael Chai Co in Kuala Lumpur whereupon he was primarily involved in civil litigation and corporate practice He was then called to the Malaysian Bar and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2012. He subsequently joined Messrs Zul Rafique Partners as a Legal Associate specialising in commercial and conveyance practice. In furtherance to his legal career, he had ventured into the litigation practice and joined Messrs K Y Soo as a Legal Associate and was subsequently promoted to Senior Legal Associate to spearhead the Dispute Resolution Department. After a strings of successful practice in the civil industry, and having several reported cases on the law reports and local newspaper, in May 2020 he left the firm and founded Messrs K J Chan Associates
Being a lawyer in private practice since 2012 he has vast experience in litigation and has attended matters at all levels, including the Federal Court and the Court of Appeal on various disputes. His main areas of practice include corporate and civil litigation, construction litigation, banking and finance, property law, probate and administration, landlord and tenant, family law practice, general commercial litigation including debt recovery for retail companies, manufacturers, and suppliers, winding up proceedings, bankruptcy proceedings and foreclosure proceedings. He also does corporate advisory work, which includes drafting, reviewing and negotiations, in various corporate and commercial matters and is currently on retainer for a few of his corporate clients upon founding the firm
Notable Achievements
Our Mr Andrew Chan had achieved several notable achievements during his legal career which was similarly reported in the law journal reports, as well as the local newspaper.
One of the most notable achievements were his contribution and involvement in the legal team with the House Buyers Associates to bring an action against the Ministry of Housing Developer from the High Court until final disposal at the Federal Court which lasted for 3 years, and finally the Federal Court delivered its decision in Ang Ming Lee 34 others v Menteri Kesejahteraan Bandar, Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan Anor The significance of this decision had impacted the long line of practice in the Housing Industry and had been considered a landmark ruling from the Federal Court
Aside from the achievements above, our Mr Andrew Chan had similarly involved in construction litigation disputes from the High Court level to the Court of Appeal and having reported as legal journals case precedents.
